Abstract—The effect of cadmium speciation on cadmium adsorption onto Hexadethyl-trimethyl ammonium (HDTMA) modified montmorillonite was investigated experimentally and using Minteqa2 geochemical speciation model. The results revealed that the increase in cadmium uptake at higher pH values is selective and directly related to the nature of species present and that this increase does not affect the form of cadmium species adsorbed onto the HDTMA modified montmorillonite.
